PEABODY, MA – The Congress Companies, a full-service construction firm specializing in senior living construction located in Peabody, MA, held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, March 13 at the site of their latest project at Golden Pond Assisted Living Residences in Hopkinton, MA.
The Congress Companies and Golden Pond Resident Care Corp., owner of Golden Pond, co-hosted the groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate commencement of construction on Phase 2 of the renovation and addition project in progress at the assisted living residences, located at 50 West Main Street in Hopkinton. Congress was selected by their repeat client Golden Pond Resident Care Corp., owned by Larry Kunst and Kerry Kunst, to provide construction management services for the building’s multiphased renovation and addition project.
Congress Project Manager, Peter Nicholson, Co-owner of Golden Pond Resident Care Corp., Kerry Kunst, and Golden Pond Executive Director, William Marr welcomed guests to the ceremony site, including Puja Mehta, District and Constituent Services Director from the Office of Senator Karen E. Spilka, and Tim Kilduff, Executive Director of the Hopkinton Chamber of Commerce and Founder and President of 26.2 Foundation. Also in attendance were The Congress Companies representatives Charlene Nicholson, Principal, Richard Williams, Superintendent, and Josh Roccapriore, Project Engineer.
According to Peter Nicholson, “We’re very pleased to be embarking on Phase 2 of our construction work at Golden Pond. As the Construction Managers, we are happy to have community support for our endeavor and look forward to producing a state-of-the-art building that sets a benchmark for the highest quality of assisted living available in the area.”
Phase 2 construction will result in a new, four-story, 36,000 square foot addition to the Golden Pond building, consisting of 41 assisted living beds in 30 residential units. Additionally, the existing building’s main mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and laundry plants will be renovated and engineered to meet the requirements of all new units as well as planned future expansions. All of the renovations are scheduled for completion by mid-November 2013 without disruption to current Golden Pond residents.
"This addition will provide residents of Hopkinton and the surrounding community with more choices for senior care,” noted Golden Pond Executive Director, William Marr. “I believe that having more options is always a good thing, and allows seniors the opportunity to live up to their potential," he added.
Congress served as the builder for the original 64,500 square foot Golden Pond facility, which was the first assisted living facility constructed under the HUD 232 Program in Massachusetts. The Golden Pond project also marks a repeat partnership between The Congress Companies and East Boston Savings Bank, the construction lender.
Khalsa Design Inc. of Somerville, MA, a well-known architecture and design firm with extensive experience in the housing and senior living industry, designed the Golden Pond renovation and addition. Major subcontractors involved in the project include Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Alternative Creative Energy, Superior Plumbing, Coventry Fire Protection, A&E Flooring, Baystate Engineering, Shawnlee Construction, Diaz Construction and Turnpike Contracting.
Work on Phase 1 of the project began in August 2012 and was completed in early November 2012. During this phase, the existing building was renovated and seven additional assisted living units were created as a result. A future Phase 3 for the Golden Pond facility has been master planned and is projected to include approximately 64 assisted living beds housed in a 33,000 square foot building.
